COLLEGE OF EDUCATION MISSION
The mission of Irvine University College of Education is to promote scholarly inquiry and prepare individuals for an array of careers and professions. The College of Education develops broadly educated individuals who are committed to open inquiry, critical thinking, effective communication, and responsive to the needs of individuals and society. In order to foster an atmosphere conducive to study, teaching, and free exchange of ideas, ethical inquiry, and the development of a personal philosophy, the College of Education provides both broad-based and specialized education for all students to help instill in them the creative, utilitarian, and life-enriching aspects of education.
COLLEGE OF EDUCATION PURPOSE
Irvine University College of Education is designed to educate students in the fields of education and English studies. Essential to fulfilling this purpose is a teaching faculty who excel in their roles as educators, creative scholars, and researchers. The College of Education offers students a broad liberal education, provides students’ preparation to enter graduate and professional schools, promotes creative activity among faculty and students, offers a broad range of programs including international education and area studies, and offers quality graduate education at the master’s degree level.
COLLEGE OF EDUCATION OBJECTIVE
Irvine University College of Education prepares students by instilling in the student the ability to comprehensively understand and implement scholarly activity related to the teaching and learning process, instruction appropriate to the discipline, and program and curriculum design.
The College of Education fosters personal and professional growth through its programs of specialized and career oriented majors. The College of Education continues to explore ways to integrate interdisciplinary, instructional and technological innovations into educational process. Skills of critical thinking, analysis and writing gained through courses and programs in Education provide students with a foundation for further study and prepare them for careers and lifelong learning. The College of Education includes three departments, the Department of English Studies, the Department of Linguistics, and the Department of Education.
