ENGLISH STUDIES PROGRAMS
The English Studies programs at Irvine University provide students with an in-depth look at the structures and properties of English as well as an overview of the structures and properties and various other languages throughout the world; including American Sign Language. Additionally, students are trained in the current issues in teaching English to speakers of other languages. Our programs also combine aspects of generative and applied linguistics and students are encouraged to focus on one non-English language throughout their studies so they become experts in the language upon graduation.
Our graduate degree and certificate programs are taught by faculty who have a breadth of knowledge in language acquisition and teaching, many of whom are also active in the K-12 classroom and/or community. Our faculty maintain excellence in teaching through professional development activities such as presenting at state, national, and world-wide conferences as well as through publishing.
IU’s programs are designed to meet the working professional’s schedule while maintaining the quality of education students expect from a graduate program. Students graduating from our program will broaden their opportunity for employment in this ever-growing global society. IU alumni have found jobs teaching English at all levels both in the United States and in many parts of the world.
